Buda Wiener Races!

This past weekend was one of our favorite events. It's the Buda Texas Festival which includes one of the largest dachshund races. They are fun and the dogs enjoy themselves as do the owners.

It started off with a slight hitch for us as we arrived at the event Saturday morning to see that the winds had taken down and destroyed our tent. The good news was that my husband was able to purchase the last one at Wal-Mart and our product was not harmed as we had left it packed in the tubs.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Watching the owners and their enthusiasm for their dachshunds can always make my face sore from smiling so much!!

Below is a video from one of the over 64 races of the weekend.

A special thanks to the Buda's Lions Club for always putting on such a top notch event

Well as the sun shows itself more often Daisy also shows her wag more often!

She spent the winter days on her bed with the heat disk, I must admit that is one of our favorite finds! We heat up two in the morning and put them under her bed and without fail she will crawl on top of her bed and lay herself right in between the two. Keeps her warm and also keeps her from getting sore.

She has done very well since her surgery and we could smack ourselves for not doing the vagina surgery sooner, but we just had no idea!

She is not on any meds right now. She was taking so many for a while it was like a meal in itself!

We do have her on a chicken/fish oil to help with her coat and she loves the taste. Her coat continues to show promise with new growth and longer hair. She will never have a great coat area over the scar but we don't mind because she can still run to us!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Spring!

Nugget, Daisy Mae Duke and Piper can be found out back, basking in the sun!

Well the day is almopste here. She will get her nearly 20 stitches out tomorrow and we are so excited! She has been doing GREAT! We took her off of all of her supplements after her rsurgery and knock on wood she has not needed any of them. She goes potty like a big girl outside and has not had any pee pee issues to date.

We hope this will bring a new chapter to Daisy Mae;s life where she no longer has to be on meds or have pain.

Here is her area the day before and after surgery. Will post photos after her stitches are out as well.

Daisy Mae had her surgery yesterday and is doing just fine.

The boys also had dentals, also doing fine.

Many of you know Daisy has had health issues her entire life. We thought that her bladder stones, urinary tract infections and vaginitues were a result from her vaccine reactions since they all seemed to start around the same time.

However, we also noticed that her vagina set in like an inny belly button.

Well we decided it was time to give Daisy another chance at health and had her in surgery yesterday. Her vet whom we all adore removed the fat and skin from around her vagina. It not has 20 stitches in it and while it looks horrible because of the stitches, it looks wonderful and we are hopeful this will take care of those issues.

This week will be long with her recovery. I will post photos once her stitches are out in 2 weeks.

Stay warm~

Wendy

A new surgery for Daisy

Hello and Happy Fall to you all! Boy it sure has cooled off fast! Here in Texas, this week, we are 10 degrees below normal!

I wanted to let you all know that I have been busy making Snuggle Sacks and my new fun creation, Mini Brag Books. Be sure to check them all out and come back often to see new selections!

Daisy will be having surgery on October the 19th. As many of you know her entire life has been plagued by illness and mishaps. We had her spay at a very early age and in hindsight wish we had not. Remember, Daisy has really been a dog that teaches us to look outside the box and to know our choices. Well, she has an "innie". Her vagina sits within some fat and skin so when she goes potty, some of the urine will just sit in that area. I clean her often, it is something she is totally used to. However she is still often battling a UTI or crystals or worse yet, stones.

The surgery she will have will cut out the fat and some of the skin so that her vagina gets full air, like a normal dog should. We have some friends who did this surgery on their young dachshund a couple of years back and they had great success. We hope with all of our heart to have the same results with Daisy.

I can imagine a day where she is not licking or irritated, where she is not on antibiotics or some other concoction to help her feel comfortable.

She will have some discomfort right after the surgery but she will hopefully have zero complications and heal up fast!

Below are photos of our friends dog before right after and healed.

Massage at home!

Starting the 17th Daisy will start getting massages at home.

She has a tech she loves when she goes to get her acupuncture. We call her Miss Sarah. Well Miss Sarah is also an animal communicator. It's a lot of fun to hear what she says Daisy is telling her.

Anyway I digress.

Starting next week Miss Sarah will come to our house. We will then go to acupuncture every other month. We are hopeful that this will work out. We think Daisy will enjoy her time with Miss Sarah in our own home. And it will actually cost a little less then the acupuncture so we too are hopeful it will be enough.

It's heating up here in North Texas. I finally got a Furminator. A friend was kind enough to send me hers! It works wonders folks! Wonders! I vaccuum up much less hair and their baths took half the time! I think they are all enjoying the weather more because of it as well, it's much cooler with out all of that extra fur on them! Give it a try. We had a generic one that did not wrok as well......

She sure keeps us on our toes!

Last night we went for our regular around the neighborhood walk. We were not even hlaf way done when she began to limp. She kept holding her left front paw up and so I did my normal check her out routine! Check the paw, clear! Check the leg, clear! Check the back (which is always so scary to do) clear!!

I carried her the rest of the walk and we did not let her walk for the rest of the evening. When we went to bed we gave her a low dose pain pill.

She fell asleep right away and we were hopeful this morning. However when she got up to give me kisses I could tell she did not want to put any pressure on that leg.

Off to the Emergency Clinic we went. They checked her with a full physical and determined that it is a soft tissue injury.

We are not sure how it happened but we have her on pain meds and hope that with rest she will once again make a full recovery.

We are getting ready for our all time favorite event in Buda Texas! The wiener races!! This event is not only fun to watch but a lot of fun to shop at as well!! There are tons of vendors with so many fun dog and dachshund items!

We have ordered a few fun items to bring with us this year to sell. We hope that if you are in the area you will stop by and say hello. And if you can not make it to the event we will post photos as soon as we get back and unpacked.

We will not be bringing any of the kids with us this year. You may remember that last year we brought Daisy Mae with us as I was not ready to leave her behind. she did great at the event but did not want to eat and so we left the event a day early.

This year we will have a house sitter with them all and we hope this will resolve any stress issues while we are gone. We don't need any sick pups!!

Be sure to check out our current selections often as we have added a few cards, magnets and will be adding human socks and metal yard art soon!

I know you can see the color along the ties but I wanted to make sure you really got to see the whole Snuggle Sack!

If you ever want more photos of a particular Snuggle Sack please by all means use the contact me button and ask!!
